Resource Booking System unavailable Tuesday 3rd April

MyRoom&Resources, the resource booking system will be unavailable next Tuesday morning from 9am until 12 noon. It is being upgraded to the latest version.

Services that will be unavailable during this upgrade:
  • Booking of Group Study Rooms in the IC and Western Bank Library
  • Laptop Loan Service in the IC
  • Booking of Creative Media Facilities
This may mean that some users will need to synchronise their password before they can use the system, but if you have done this since January 2011 you will not be affected.

MyPC, the PC booking service will be unaffected.

Health Sciences Library Refurbishment

All study space in the Health Sciences Library, Royal Hallamshire Hospital will be unavailable from Wednesday 28th March.  The rooms are closing to be refurbished and will open again in September, at the start of the new academic year.

Additional on-site study spaces have been arranged plus extended opening times in other Libraries.  To find out more about what is happening and to check which space is available each day visit the following web page:

Student Video Competition - Win a Zoom Q3HD video recorder

The deadline is 1pm on Tuesday 8th May and we are looking for the best 90 second video on the theme 'My favourite thing about the IC'.  So get creative.

Student Video Competition

You must use the IC handy video recorders from the new Creative Media Edit Suite which is on Level 1 of the IC.  It is open 24 hours a day,7 days a week.  To find out more about the facilities available visit their web page.

The top ten videos will be played continuously on one of the IC screens in the entrance foyer throughout May.

Student Barometer - The Results

Our IT Services have been voted the best in the country by an independent student and international student barmometer.

For the student barometer CiCS scored 96.2% satisfaction, which means we were ranked as number 1 IT dept (in terms of student satisfaction) in the Russell Group and the UK.

In the international student barometer CiCS scored 96.1% satisfaction, which means we were ranked as number 2  in the world, and number 1 in the UK

Headsets and Card Readers Available for Loan in the IC

We have recently added headsets and external USB card readers to myRooms&Resources booking system.

The headsets can be used to create podcasts, to record a voice over for a presentation, or simply to make a Skype call.  The external USB Card Readers are compatible with with all computers in the Information Commons, and support a wealth of different memory card formats.

All of this kit can be booked via myRooms&Resources, and is collected from the L1 Helpdesk.

Like MyPC, students can find myRooms&Resources under myQuickLinks within MUSE.

Printing From Kiosks

Kiosk computers are available in the Information Commons and some Libraries and are ideal for when you need to use web-based services but don't need the power of a high-spec PC.

Following feedback from students the kiosk service has been improved and it is now possible to print to student printers from any kiosk. They also run the latest version of Firefox and so you can use MOLE and MOLE 2.

More Windows 7 PCs in the IC

For several months six computers in the IC have been running a pilot of a student computing service based on Windows 7. The pilot has been really successful and so we are pleased to announce that over the next few weeks we will be extending the pilot to around 100 computers on Level 1 of the IC.
