Improving MOLE

On Friday, August 30th, we will be doing work on MOLE. In preparation moving it onto faster, more powerful hardware, later in the year, we will be making changes to the servers that MOLE runs on.

We will be shutting MOLE down at 6am on Friday morning and expect the work to be completed by 8am. The service will be unavailable during this time.

MyEcho upgrade: Wednesday 28th August

On Wednesday August 28th, we will be upgrading the MyEcho software. The new software version will provide us with improved reliability for lecture capture and will allow us to make lecture capture more widely available. The upgrade will also lead to other improvements including improved picture quality and the potential to roll out new features in the future.

MyEcho will be unavailable from 10 a.m. for up to two hours during which you will be unable to view or upload recordings, or carry out any scheduled recordings. It will still be possible to make recordings using the personal capture software.

Business systems maintenance tonight from 5pm

Today, Monday 12th August, at 5.00pm a number of services will be taken down so changes can be made to how the University meets certain statutory obligations. From 6 April 2013 the majority of employers in the UK started reporting Pay As You Earn (PAYE) Tax and National Insurance information to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in real time. Previously data had to be sent to HMRC on an annual basis but now this information has to be submitted on a monthly basis in real time. This is good news for individuals as if there are queries or problems with tax HMRC will be able to sort them out quickly.

It's been a big job for staff in Finance as they have had to check that all the data held on HR & Payroll records is complete and accurate. They have also had to check and, if necessary, update relevant data for all employees, casual workers, pensioners, and anyone else they pay via the payroll system. This essential data includes: full name, date of birth and National Insurance number. They have also checked that there is a permanent address for everyone.

Now all this work has been carried out CiCS will make changes to the following services:
  • uBASE 
  • myJob/myTeam 
  • myPurchase will be up, but not accessible 
  • eRecruitment internal applicants will be up, but not accessible 
All the work will be completed by Tuesday morning when you should, hopefully, be able to log in to the affected services, although they will still be considered at risk.
